Root canal treatment in Targu Jiu

From 250 lei

We treat root canals when the dental pulp is inflamed or infected, to keep the natural tooth where possible and avoid an extraction. The clinic's price list sets out each stage separately, and work under the microscope has a row of its own.

Endodontics is the dental specialty concerned with the study and treatment of conditions of the dental pulp and of the tissues around the root tip.

Endodontic treatment covers the procedures by which the inflamed or infected dental pulp is removed, and the root canals are cleaned, disinfected and sealed to prevent reinfection.

Why endodontics matters: the health of the inside of the tooth

Endodontic treatment is a series of therapeutic procedures that aims to remove the infection from the dental pulp and to protect the decontaminated areas from further bacterial attack.

With a diseased dental pulp, you may feel sensitivity to hot and cold when chewing, and you may have constant pain in the affected tooth.

Without treatment, the initial inflammation, followed by infection and necrosis of the root pulp, can make the tooth loose and painful, and in the end you may lose that tooth.

Endodontic therapy

At our clinic we use both conventional methods for treating and filling root canals and a dental microscope, rotary systems for shaping the root canal, and systems for filling the root canals.

Frequently asked questions

Does root canal treatment hurt
Root canal treatment is usually carried out under local anaesthetic, to reduce pain during the procedure. The discomfort is most often linked to the inflammation or infection of the dental pulp that was present before treatment. If you feel pain during the procedure, it is important to tell your dentist, so they can take the necessary steps and adjust the anaesthetic.
How many appointments does root canal treatment take
How long treatment takes depends on the specifics of the tooth, the anatomy of the root canals and how complex the case is. Some treatments can be finished in a single appointment, while others need two or more, with a temporary filling placed in between. The estimated number of appointments is set by the dentist after the consultation and the necessary investigations. When the dental microscope is needed, it is charged separately, for each appointment, according to the clinic's price list.
What does root canal treatment cost at Hevadent
The cost of endodontic treatment depends on the type of tooth, the number of root canals and how complex the procedure is. Removing the dental pulp costs 250 lei for single-rooted teeth and 300 lei for molars. Filling the canals costs 250 lei and 300 lei respectively. A treatment that includes both procedures therefore costs 500 lei for a single-rooted tooth and 600 lei for a molar. In some situations, additional procedures may be needed, such as applying MTA (150 lei), endodontic retreatment (125 lei) or using the dental microscope (150 lei per appointment). These are charged separately, when they are needed. For the full, up-to-date list of costs, see the Prices section of the Hevadent website.
What happens if I put root canal treatment off
Putting treatment off can make the inflammation or infection of the dental pulp worse, and it can spread to the tissues around the root, causing bone lesions or dental abscesses. Over time, the gradual breakdown of the tooth and the complications that appear can make treatment harder. In some situations, putting the procedure off can reduce the chances of keeping the natural tooth, making extraction necessary.
Is the tooth worth saving, or is extraction better
Keeping the natural tooth should be the first option, when there is a real chance of the treatment succeeding. A tooth kept in the arch helps keep the neighbouring teeth in position, preserves the supporting bone and keeps chewing correct. Losing it, on the other hand, can lead over time to teeth drifting and to bone loss. Replacing a missing tooth can also involve more complex treatment and higher costs than saving it. After the consultation and the X-rays, the dentist assesses the tooth and decides whether it can be treated and kept, or whether extraction is the more suitable solution.
Why is a restoration still needed after root canal treatment
Root canal treatment aims to remove the infection or the affected pulp tissue and to keep the natural tooth. Even so, when the tooth has lost a significant part of its structure, a further restoration may be needed to give back its strength, shape and function. Depending on how damaged it is, the dentist may recommend a filling, a crown build-up or a dental crown. In some situations, a post may also be needed to support the build-up, when too little tooth structure remains. The type of restoration is decided case by case, after a clinical assessment.
I am afraid of the dentist. What can I do
Fear of dental treatment is common and can have different causes, such as fear of pain, of the anaesthetic or of the noise of the instruments. It is important to tell your dentist what worries you. They can explain the stages of the treatment and adapt their approach to reduce discomfort and anxiety.
What is normal to feel in the days after root canal treatment
After root canal treatment, the treated tooth may be painful and sensitive, especially when chewing, because of inflammation in the tissues around the root. These symptoms are usually temporary and ease gradually over a few days. Depending on the case, the dentist may recommend medication to control pain and inflammation. If the pain gets worse, does not ease, or swelling or a fever appears, it is important to contact your dentist for a reassessment.
