Brushing every day is not always enough. Although it is essential for keeping your mouth healthy, brushing does not always manage to remove plaque and tartar completely, and both can build up in areas that are hard to reach. These deposits can lead to inflamed gums, bad breath and even loose teeth.
At Hevadent we use Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) for professional preventive cleaning. GBT is a protocol developed by the manufacturer EMS, and it does not usually need anaesthesia. The protocol uses AIRFLOW, PERIOFLOW and PIEZON devices to remove dental biofilm.
What is biofilm?
Biofilm plays a central role in tooth decay and gum disease. Keeping it under control at regular intervals contributes to the health of your mouth.
- It is recommended at regular intervals, as set by the dentist.
- It removes plaque and contributes to the health of the gums.
How does a professional GBT cleaning go?
1. Checking your oral health
The teeth and gums are examined to find plaque deposits, tartar and any gum problems.
2. Staining the dental biofilm
A special disclosing agent is applied to the surface of the teeth. It stains the plaque and shows the areas where it builds up. This way you can see where your brushing needs more attention, and the dentist can remove the biofilm more precisely.
3. Removing the biofilm with AIRFLOW and PERIOFLOW
AIRFLOW uses a controlled jet of water, air and fine powder to remove biofilm and surface staining. PERIOFLOW can be used, when needed, to clean deeper areas below the gum line.
4. Removing tartar with PIEZON
Any remaining tartar is removed with PIEZON ultrasonic technology.
5. Final check and hygiene advice
At the end, the result of the cleaning is checked and you are given personalised advice on oral hygiene and on the interval until your next preventive cleaning session.
